The United States has multiple time zones. The main clock shows only your selected city; the named-city clocks below show other locations. Your selection also sets the converter’s From city and the planner’s City 1.

Understanding United States time
There is no single current time for the whole USA. Start with the city where the person or event is located. This guide offers selected cities in the 50 states; it is not an exhaustive list of US territories or local time-zone boundaries.
Guidance reviewed October 31, 2026. Live times follow your device clock and time-zone data.
Choose the US city before comparing time
New York, Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles represent Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific time respectively. Anchorage and Honolulu provide Alaska and Hawaii examples. Their current local dates, times and UTC offsets are shown separately above.
The main clock initially shows New York, not a national US clock. Choosing a city also updates the converter's From city and the first planner row. Some states cross time-zone boundaries, so choose the actual destination rather than inferring its time from the state name.
Daylight saving and exceptions
Most US locations that observe daylight saving move forward on the second Sunday in March and back on the first Sunday in November. The repeated or skipped hour happens in local time, not at one simultaneous nationwide instant.
Phoenix and Honolulu do not currently make that seasonal change. Most of Arizona does not observe daylight saving, but the Navajo Nation does. A Denver–Phoenix comparison can therefore change with the season even though both are associated with Mountain time.

Planning a US–India call
The converter starts with New York and New Delhi. India is 10 hours 30 minutes ahead of New York during Eastern Standard Time and 9 hours 30 minutes ahead during Eastern Daylight Time. That is a New York comparison, not the difference for every US city.
For a future appointment, choose the US city and Indian city in the planner, then enter the date using the device time zone shown under the input. Check both local dates. Avoid an ambiguous repeated hour: the existing planner follows the browser's interpretation and does not offer a choice between the two occurrences.
See the India time guide for Indian Standard Time, half-hour offsets and more scheduling examples.
| New York rule | New York time | India time |
|---|---|---|
| EST · UTC−5 | 09:00 | 19:30 · same day |
| EDT · UTC−4 | 09:00 | 18:30 · same day |
These examples apply to New York only. Other US cities can have different offsets and daylight-saving rules; compare the actual city and date.
Questions about United States time
Is New York time the same as Los Angeles time?
No. Under current rules New York is three hours ahead of Los Angeles. Both have seasonal clock changes, but each switches at its own local transition time, so verify an appointment around changeover hours.
Can I use one time for every place in the USA?
No. Name the city, local date and time zone in an invitation. The clocks here cover selected cities, not every US region or territory.
